Ambassadors '06

Our 2006 Ambassadors boldly ventured where no-one else had been before. That’s right they were our first intake at the Climate Change College.
Their lessons began at the Royal Geographical Society, following in the footsteps of other intrepid adventurers, and ended up on the TO5 EGIG line in Greenland. All emissions for the expedition were calculated and offset using Cool Your Jets, which invests in renewable energy projects in developing countries.

The Greenland ice sheet is the second largest ice sheet on the planet. Scientists warn that it’s melting at a rapid rate and unless this decline is tackled it could have devastating effects for low-lying areas.

During their trip our Ambassadors collected data for the European Space Agency’s CryoSat-2 mission, which seeks to determine the underlining trend of diminishing polar ice, measuring ice thickness on land and sea.

Ambassadors got to experience scientific research first-hand and talk directly to scientists.

In 2006 the Netherlands and the UK were the only countries involved. Ambassadors worked in country teams of 3 on communication projects aimed at raising awareness on Climate Change solutions.

But apart from science, the beauty of the Arctic wilderness was always intended to seduce our Ambassadors to become, well lifelong Ambassadors for action on Climate Change. What we didn’t plan for was that they also become lifelong friends.
