Anne Leeflang

Anne Leeflang (24) - The Netherlands

Background: A Social and Cultural Educator she is currently writing a paper on the needs of sustainable development.

Campaign: Anne planned to promote water-saving showerheads, helping students in her hometown of Utrecht to use less energy and water while showering.

An ordinary shower head lets through about 10 -12 litres of water a minute. A water-saving showerhead consume a third up to half less, and that saves up to € 20 a year on energy - and water account by person. What’s more households that install a water-saving shower-head typically shower for a minute shorter than those without. All that without loss of shower comfort!

Target:
Save 361000 liters water
2808 kilos CO2
And because a water-saving showerhead goes along for 8 years, it means this action could reduce a total of 6.080.000 kilos CO2!

Campaign Results:
Anne worked for 6 months with University dormitories, secured all the showerheads and a pretty snazzy demonstration shower unit to show the showerheads in action.  She’d also worked to develop a fun marketing teaser campaign to educate and excite students about her project.  However, 1 week before her campaign the University dormitory she’d been working with suddenly realised they’d already converted the shower heads and didn’t require her help and resources anymore.

Good news is that the target water savings was achieved although the bad news was that Anne didn’t have the chance to reveal her clever campaign.

Anne plans to build on the skills she developed while working on her campaign to develop new social and environmental innovations.

Anne also represented the College on MTV’s Live Earth broadcast.
